Robert Hass

 

Robert Hass is the author of the volumes of poetry Field Guide, Praise, Human Wishes, and Sun Under Wood. Furthermore, he is the translator of Czeslaw Milosz, Polish Nobel Prize winner in 1980. From 1995 to 1997 Hass served as ,poet laureate‘ of the United States in Washington.

Making use of the prestige of this institution he campaigned for environmental issues and the literacy of socially disadvantaged children in the media and on public lecture tours. Robert Hass was awarded the renowned MacArthur Fellowship. He received the National Book Critic’s Circle Award for his collection of essays Twentieth Century Pleasures. In 2008 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Time and Materials: Poems 1997-2005, published in 2007. Hass lives in California and teaches at the University of Berkeley.
