Nora Amin

Nora Amin is one of the most successful Egyptian authors of her time. She was born in 1970 and completed her studies of French and Comparative Literature in 1992. For nine years she worked as member of the organizing committee of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.

She was a teacher at the Academy of Arts in Cairo. In addition, she has offered numerous theater workshops and directed various theater productions, as well in Europe. Nora Amin founded LaMusica, an independent theater group in Cairo, and is a founding member of the Cairo Opera House. In writing, she has found the perfect medium to process her experience and to let memories flow into each other, as she says. Despite the tense situation during the revolutionary unrest in March 2013, An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen was performend at the Cairo Goethe Institute near Tahrir Square directed by Nora Amin. „Theatre can also be a kind of resistance. For me, theater does not mean just entertainment in these times but a way to survive.“
