Samuel Fischer Guest Professor

Héctor Abad

In the summer term 2014, the Colombian author, translator and journalist Héctor Abad took over the Samuel Fischer Guest Professorship. Abad’s literary works often focus on the personality of the narrator and the act of narration in its pursuit of protection and power.
Thereby, he refers to the contemporary Colombian society as well as to his own family history. Abad is internationally known for his bestselling novel Angosta, and more recently, El Olvido que Seremos. Most of his work was also published in English. Héctor Abad has received several national and international awards, including the Casa de America Award for Innovative American Narrative for Basura in 2000.
